It is a few minutes’ walk to Hugh Town, the main hub of the island, which comprises niche gift shops, a well stocked supermarket, bank, post office and a good choice of restaurants and pubs if you prefer to eat out. The quay is approximately 8 minutes’ walk at the end of town from where you catch the Scillonian to the mainland or the off-island boats for trips to explore the beautiful islands of Bryher, St Martin’s, Tresco and St Agnes. St Mary’s is approximately 2 miles at its widest point and getting out of town to explore is easy. You can hire a golf buggy, bike or simply walk one of the stunning coastal pathways around the island, stopping at one of the excellent cafes for lunch.
